About
Grace grew up in the fog of West Portal and moved later on to the East Bay through high school. Her brother would happily tell you the story of how she made up songs and then sung them over the loudspeaker in 1st grade. Obsessed with the piano, Grace always wrote more songs than she learned from that point on. Countless musicals and plays later, Grace discovered her singular voice and her life passion.
After studying at UCLA, she decided to return to the Bay Area, the ideal place for her originality to blossom. After touring with the Grace Woods Trio and releasing 3 CDs over 4 years, Grace continues with her solo project in 2010. The Trio’s released their 3rd CD, “A Good Day in Red Paper” on December 3rd, 2009 in San Francisco. Grace Woods tells cathartic stories with her music. Despite prizing other authors above him, Grace agrees with Hemingway’s mantra of writing “hard and clear about what hurts.” The uplifting rhythms of “A Good Day in Red Paper” reflect the bitter sweetness of creating with this suggestion in mind. December 2009 also marked the completion of her MBA. Having studied the music industry during a time of digital revolution and financial collapse, Grace seeks to promote as art as the necessary, human component of business that that must be brought back into the forefront of our imaginations and our corporate entities.
Grace writes all of her own music and takes pains to lead a sustainable life, sharing a car, taking transit whenever possible and eating sustainably whenever possible. She is lucky enough to have friends who are great examples of this personal responsibility and she aspires to achieve their ease and mastery. She believes DIY is an interdisciplinary concept.
